September 24, 2014

Colorado Springs, Co – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is proud to announce that founder, Boyd Epley, the “Godfather of Strength and Conditioning,” has been recognized with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN). The award was presented to Epley on Tuesday, September 16 at the Council’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Epley was one of five recipients of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented annually since 2007, the Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals whose careers have greatly contributed to the advancement or promotion of physical activity, fitness, sports, and nutrition-related programs nationwide. Recipients are selected by members of PCFSN based on the span and scope of an individual’s career, the estimated number of lives they have touched, and the impact of their legacy. Epley was nominated for the honor by former NSCA President Steve Bliss. “The NSCA is incredibly proud to see our founder Boyd Epley receive such prestigious and significant recognition through the President Council’s Lifetime Achievement Award,” said NSCA Executive Director Michael Embree. “Coach Epley has dedicated his life to the strength and conditioning profession, and has made a tremendous impact on countless lives. There is no one more deserving of this honor, and we applaud Coach Epley on his enduring achievements.”

Boyd is the most decorated strength coach in history. Lindy’s National College Football magazine named him one of College Football’s Top 100 Most Important People of the Century after his training program helped produce five national championships and 356 wins in 35 years of Nebraska football. In 1978, Epley founded the National Strength and Conditioning Association, serving as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for five years. The NSCA honored Epley with its first National Strength Coach-of-the-Year Award in 1980, and in 1993 he was presented the NSCA’s first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award, which was later renamed the Boyd Epley Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2009. He was also honored by the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1993 with the Lyell Bremser Merit Award, and has received numerous other honors throughout his decorated career.
